Shin Splints

Shin splints is an umbrella term and
not a real diagnosis. It is used as a catchall for overuse injury to
any of the structures of the leg. Effective management
of this condition depends on an accurate diagnosis and targeted
treatment. For example stress fracture is a frequent cause of shin
splints and this needs careful management with use of plaster casts,
Aircast XP Walkers and Aircast Leg Braces. The graph below is the
stress - cycles fatigue profile for the bone of the shin
explaining that the stress (a function of weight, size and structure
and the number of times the leg is stressed) can lead to fatigue
fracture:
